Who we are
Orpine is made by Ostren Ltd, company number [PENDING], registered office [PENDING]. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) under number [PENDING]. Ostren is the controller of the personal data described in this policy.
Email orpine.support@ostren.co.uk with any question about your data.
Orpine is for people aged 18 or over.
Words we use
- Your organisation is your account in Orpine. During early access, each organisation has one person in it.
- A goal is something you want to learn. The tutor builds lessons toward it.
- Learner content means your goals, your conversations with the tutor, your lessons and your progress.
What we collect, and why
| What | Why | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Your name, email address and password. We cannot see your password. With Google sign-in, the name and email address Google gives us. | To run your account | Contract |
| Your goals, lessons and conversations with the tutor | To teach you | Contract |
| How many lessons you have taken and how much you use the tutor | To apply the free plan limit | Contract |
| Your IP address, browser type and a log of actions in your account | To keep Orpine secure | Legitimate interest |
| Help messages and error reports, which can include a goal you choose to share or the part of a lesson that failed | To help you and fix problems | Legitimate interest |
| Feedback you give us | To improve Orpine | Legitimate interest |
You need to give us your name and email address to have an account.
When you share a goal with a help message, we use it only to fix the fault you reported. We may open that goal in your account, and we may give it to an AI coding assistant from Anthropic in an isolated workspace, under terms that do not allow training.
We do not sell your data, show adverts, or build marketing profiles.
AI
The tutor and the lesson author run on AI models from Anthropic, in the United States. Anthropic does not train on your content and deletes it within 30 days, unless it must keep it longer to prevent abuse.
The tutor's decisions, such as how a lesson goes or whether a goal is done, have no legal or similarly significant effect on you. If you disagree with how the tutor judged your work, email us and a person will review it.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and learner content while your organisation exists. We close an organisation after six months without a sign-in, or when early access ends, and delete its data within 30 days. Closing cannot be undone.
Help messages and error records are kept for six months, server logs for 30 days, and the record of actions in your account for two years.
How we protect it
- Every connection to Orpine uses HTTPS.
- Your data is stored under your organisation, and no other account can reach it.
- Lessons run in a sandbox in your browser that cannot reach your account.
If a breach puts your data at risk, we tell you, and we tell the ICO where the law requires it.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, to correct or delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to receive it in a portable format. Email orpine.support@ostren.co.uk and we reply within one month.
Where we rely on our legitimate interests, you can object at any time, and we stop unless we have compelling grounds to continue.
You can complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would like the chance to put things right first, so please write to us.
